In 2002 I paid my second visit to the Alpbachtal area in the Austrian Tyrol as a guide for the photographer Alan Simpson. I took the opportunity to take Alan to the top of several mountains where the views were absolutely astounding.
This was the view looking back towards Alpbach from a lower ridge on the Grosser Galtenberg.
The lower slopes around Alpbach made for some very pleasant walking.
The local tourist walking map had a very useful 3D map on the reverse which named some of the larger mountains on the horizon.
That ‘On top of the World’ feeling.
A visit to the Grossglockner, the largest mountain in Austria is a must on any visit, but tread carefully!
A bit further up the glacier (I ignored the signs!)
